Obituary: Monte Roland Armstrong

Monte Roland Armstrong, born on April 21, 1940, in Whitehall, Montana, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024 in Hayden, Idaho surrounded by family. He was 84 years old. Monte was the beloved son of Robert and Gladys Armstrong and shared a special bond with his twin sister, Montana. Raised in a loving home, Monte grew into a man of character, strength, and values that he carried with him throughout his life. On May 6, 1959, Monte answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably until April 15, 1963, displaying the discipline and dedication that would define his life. On August 29, 1964, Monte married the love of his life, Catherine Ann Bucy. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising four children. Monte’s love for his family was immeasurable. He took immense pride in being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to 11 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 8 great-grandchildren. Monte was a master woodworker, renowned for his eye for detail and craftsmanship. His hands crafted pieces that were not just furniture but works of art, each telling a story of dedication and precision. His talent and passion for woodworking were only matched by the love he had for his family, whom he cherished above all else. Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gladys Armstrong, and his twin sister, Montana. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine, his four children, Angela (Tony) Grover, Wendy (John) Kimpton, Deborah (Casey) Dressler and Wayne (Kristin) Armstrong, and a large, loving extended family who will miss him dearly. Monte’s legacy of love, dedication, and artistry will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will be a blessing to his family and friends, who will forever cherish the moments they shared with him. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Monte’s life on September 16th at 11 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Townsend, MT, immediately followed by a gravesite service. A reception after both will be held at the American Legion in Townsend.
