On Monday, October 26th, the Broadwater National Honor celebrated the induction of 9 new members. The Honor Society, led by BHS teacher Britney Bancroft, is a group that recognizes students that excel in leadership, academics, character, and service.

The ceremony began with a wonderful speech by BHS teacher and cheer coach, Allie Lampman. She overviewed the four pillars of the National Honor Society: Leadership, Service, Scholarship, and Character and challenged the current members and inductees to revisit their dedication to these characteristics. She recognized that individuals must have these skills to become a member of NHS, but she challenges them to think about what these characteristics really mean to them. Along with this, she also outlined the importance of service and leadership to our community and connected that character and scholarship are direct reflections of one’s commitment to service and leadership. She ended the speech with encouraging words to the inductees, to always lead with passion and integrity and surround oneself with people who make it easy to do the right thing.

After that, the current National Honor Society members gave speeches on how the four pillars have affected their lives. Members then lit the ceremonial candles. The current NHS members are Shalyn Sentinella, Angel Sentinella, Hailey Hildreth, Sarah Morgan, Landen Davies, Logan Johnson, Bryleigh Erickson, Emily Taves, Jazel Ragen, and Janeth Garcia. Then, it was time for the induction.

The new members underwent an application process during which a board of teachers examined their grades, service hours, character and leadership skills. The 9 new members that were inducted were: Brynlee Brown, Tevyn Newman, Claire Swanson, Aiden Thompson, Wyatt Simpson, Alexis Fryer, Elaine MacDonald, Cheyanne Dougals, and Kinsley Heggen. These new members have high expectations and will do great things with their National Honor Society membership.

The members of the National Honor Society will contribute over 40 hours of community service through their membership. They also help with other community activities like the highway cleanup and picking up trash after sporting events. These members, like Allie Lampman said, are “the future leaders of our community.”
