Cross Country: Pony

The Bulldog cross-country team co-hosted last week in picturesque Pony, Montana, on Thursday, September 10th. This meet, more than most, reveals the true grit of these athletes on a true cross-country course that loops around town, up and down and up and down again.
The Junior Varsity men and women runners were on the course simultaneously to begin the day. Freshman Lydia Brakefield looked strong, placing 5th for the ladies with a time of 28:04, while seniors Shalyn Sentinella and Sarah Morgan finished back-to-back in 10th and 11th with times of 30:58 and 31:04.
The men’s JV team took second place collectively, with sophomore Mason Johnson leading the way, placing 12th in 22:50. Next up for the Bulldogs was freshman Everett Kirksey in 19th with 24:51; following closely were 20th Trey Coker (26:05SB), 23rd Isaiah Sparks-Lowry (28:41PB), and 25th Cooper Nichter (29:08).
The varsity races followed, with the ladies getting first honors. Junior Elaine MacDonald was the number one Bulldog in 7th place with a time of 24:02, while freshman Kathryn Six cracked the top ten for the first time in 24:57. Rounding out the team were: 14th Addy Mosher (25:42), 15th Alexis Fryer (25:56), 18th Kay Crusch (26:31), and 20th Kensley Sangray (27:01). The Lady Dawgs were third collectively with 43 points; one point behind Ennis and six points behind Jefferson.
The men were up next with senior Dallas Fligge (19:04) crossing the line in third place and sophomore Clayton Rice (19:54) not far behind in 10th. Rounding out the team were: 26th Isaiah Lapsley (22:53), 28th Urijah Duede (23:01), 29th Gavin Johnson (23:02), and 31st Luke Tullos (24:27). The men were third overall with 59 points.
The Bulldogs will run next on Saturday, September 19th, at the Mountain West Classic at the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula. Mountain West is by far the largest cross-country meet in Montana, with more than 100 high schools scheduled to compete.
