The Manhattan Invitational on Thursday, September 3rd, was the Bulldogs' second cross-country meet of the season, along with over a dozen Class B and C area schools. The 5K course, roughly 3.1 miles, was spectator friendly consisting of three loops that meandered around Taylor Park.

For those not familiar with Cross Country, each Varsity team can have up to 7 runners, with the top 5 athletes combining for the team scores. Their score corresponds to their finishing place, with the team receiving the lowest score winning. The sixth and seventh runners on a team, although they do not log points, can also be important, in that they can “displace” scoring runners from the other teams.

The varsity ladies looked strong, all marking their season’s best or personal best times while finishing third as a team with a score of 88. First among them was junior Elaine MacDonald, placing 8th with her time of 21:24SB. The rest of our young team, comprised of freshmen and sophomores, finished as follows: 23rd Kathryn Six 23:47PB, 25th Kay Crusch 24:14PB, 28th Addy Mosher 24:41SB, 33rd Kensley Sangray 25:24PB.

The JV ladies were next on the course, but with only four runners, they were not able to score as a team. Lydia Brakefield and Sarah Morgan finished back-to-back in 7th and 8th with times of 26:43PB and 27:03PB. Rounding out the JV squad were Courtney Webber in 15th with 31:01PB and Shalyn Sentinella in 16th with 31:06.

Next up was the Men’s Varsity. Senior Dallas Fligge cut almost 30 seconds off his time from last week to finish in 6th place with 17:46SB. Sophomore Clayton Rice also cut time to finish 13th at 18:58SB. The rest of the team: 25th Isaiah Lapsley 20:04SB, 36th Gavin Johnson 20:53SB, 38th Rylan Hoveland 21:20, 43rd Urijah Duede 21:40SB, and 44th Luke Tullos 21:41SB. The men were fourth overall with 101 points.

The JV men’s team won their race with a combined total of 20 points. Those men were: 7th Mason Johnson 22:02PB, 9th Everett Kirksey 23:28, 13th Declan Toney 26:25, 15th Trey Coker 27:24SB, 16th Cooper Nichter 28:15PB, and 17th Isaiah Sparks-Lowry 28:42PB.

The Bulldogs will be co-hosting their next XC meet in beautiful Pony, Montana, on Thursday morning, September 10th. They follow that with the biggest meet of the season, the Mountain West Classic on the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula on September 19th.
