Glenna Simpson, 92, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday evening July 21, 2026, comforted by family members. Glenna was born on September 30, 1933, in Ames, Oklahoma, to Waldo and Agnes McDowell. She was the fourth of six children.

Growing up on the family farm just outside of Ames, Glenna went to school in Ames and graduated high school in 1951. She loved being involved in girls’ sports and other school activities during her high school years. Not long after graduating, Glenna moved to Enid, Oklahoma, for a job at the phone company. While living in Enid, she met Jim Simpson, who was stationed at Vance AFB just a short distance away. They were married in Enid on May 2, 1955. That very night, they set off for Jim’s home state of Montana, ready to begin their new life together.

Jim and Glenna’s first stop was Helena, Montana, where they lived for five years. After that, they moved to their new home in East Helena, where they kept growing their family together. Jim and Glenna were so happy to have four wonderful children join them: Mike, Sharon, Tom, and Susan.

Glenna dedicated her early years to raising her children as a homemaker. In 1974, she transitioned into a career as the attendance clerk at Helena Capital High School, a role she held until her retirement in 1989. During their retirement, Jim and Glenna embarked on various vacations at different elder hostels with their friends. They also embraced the Snowbird lifestyle and purchased a winter retreat in Mesa, Arizona. Golf became a cherished pastime for them during their retirement years.

Glenna was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, Waldo and Agnes, brother Mac McDowell, and sisters Joyce and Donna.

She is survived by her four children: Mike (Becky), Sharon, Tom, and Susan (Dave). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Dusty, Kyle and Dylan Simpson, Scott Evans, Lyndsey Jourdannais, Lauren Perry, and Katie Nicholson, along with great-grandchildren Madyson, Olivia, Aubrey, Natalie, J.J., and Cayde. Glenna is also survived by her brother Eddy (Sue) McDowell of Enid, Oklahoma, and sister Veta Muns of San Antonio, Texas.
