The MHSA State Class B Meet was held in Missoula last Friday and Saturday, May 29th & 30th. The Broadwater Bulldogs were well represented with 7 girls qualifying in 13 events and 9 boys qualifying in 9 events. The Broadwater Lady Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for 5th place with a total of 34 points, while the men finished in a tie for 13th with 20 points.

Senior Kaitlyn Noyes closed out her extraordinary track career by three-peating as long jump state champion, and she did it in record-setting fashion. Her first jump of the meet was a giant one of 18’9.75”, which is now the all-time Class B record! The previous record was established by Kaitlyn in her sophomore season with her jump of 18’0.5. Kaitlyn’s busy weekend also included 4th place finishes in the high jump and triple jump, while anchoring both relays.

Senior Trace Giomi capped off his amazing season with a state championship in the discus. He was in the lead on Friday before lightning delays stopped competition. Early Saturday morning, Trace threw back-to-back PBs on his last two throws of his high school career to secure the win! He also placed 4th in the shot put. Trace improved by 18 feet in the discus this season and more than 8 feet in the shot put.

Junior Kyla Meissner repeated as state champion in the 3200-meter run, taking the lead from the start and not looking back. Despite being sidelined by injury for the last month, Kyla also managed a 4th place finish in the 1600-meter run but had to scratch the 800-meter run.

Senior Gavin Schmele finished third in the shot put with a throw of 48’8.5”. Gavin’s personal best improved by more than five feet from last season.

The ladies’ 4x100-meter relay consisting of seniors Holly Newman, Aspen Slyker, Kaitlyn Noyes and sophomore Elaine MacDonald broke their own school record from last season with a time of 49.55 which placed them fifth overall.

Girls Varsity: 100-meter dash: 18 Elaine MacDonald 13.30. 200-meter dash: 18 Elaine MacDonald 28.03. 400-meter dash: 12 Elaine MacDonald 1:01.80 PB. 1600-meter run: 4 Kyla Meissner 5:17.09. 3200-meter run: 1 Kyla Meissner 11:19.62.

100-meter hurdles: 11 Holly Newman 16.80. 300-meter hurdles: 13 Aspen Slyker 49.98. 4x100-meter relay: 5 H. Newman, E. MacDonald, A. Slyker, K. Noyes 49.55. 4x400-meter relay: 16 E. Fischer, L. Barkhurst, A. Slyker, K. Noyes 4:26.28.

High Jump: 4 Kaitlyn Noyes 5’2”. Long Jump: 1 Kaitlyn Noyes 18’9.75” PB. Triple Jump: 4 Kaitlyn Noyes 34’11.5”.

Boys Varsity: 100-meter dash: 9 Tannen Tuffelmire 11.67. 1600-meter run: 15 Gavin Greene 4:43.00. 3200-meter run: 8 Gavin Greene 10:09.49 PB.

110-meter hurdles: 11 Tannen Tuffelmire 16.43 PB, 13 Jim Tew 16.58. 4x100-meter relay: H. Vandenacre, B. Lessley, L. Johnson, T. Tuffelmire 44.41.

Shot Put: 3 Gavin Schmele 48’8.5”, 4 Trace Giomi 48’5”. Discus: 1 Trace Giomi 153’8” PB. Long Jump: 8 Jim Tew 20’0.25”. Triple Jump: 7 Jim Tew 42’, 8 Tavyn Anderson 41’1.25” PB.
