1903

“Local News”

Several important local events did not appear in the Star last week on account of an over-plus of matter. Some of which, however, will receive notice in this issue.

The columns of the star at the disposal of any resident of Townsend to air their veins on the proposed water system.

Mr. Kennavan of Sheep Creek is visiting his brother-in-law, M. McMahon. He will depart for home on Saturday, accompanied by the Misses Kennavan.

Jay Siebold departed for Homer, Ill., his old home, last Wednesday. He has been engaged to take charge of one of the important schools of Champaign County and will begin duties about the first of September.

Messrs. Con Sweeney, Carles Bonathan and J.J. Garbutt of Winston were in attendance at the stock association meeting last Saturday.

1925

“Local News”

Quite a bit of damage was done on Deep Creek near the Dean ranch on June 10th when an electrical storm burnt several yards of telephone wire. The lightning seemed to stick on the telephone wires, burning about a quarter of a mile, and jumped to a chicken wire fence, destroying the wire fencing.

Howard Doggett came home from Missoula last week after spending the past year at the State University.

Miss Gladys Noble departed for Dillon on Saturday, where she will study in the State Normal during the summer.

The carnival dance given in Radersburg last Saturday evening by the Merry Makers orchestra was attended by a large crowd and a dandy time reported.

Joe Shaw, who has been working at the Fort in Helena, is back in Townsend again.

1953

“Eleventh birthdays Observed by Party”

Gay Ann Sullivan and Marcial Neild observed their eleventh birthdays June 20th with a joint party on the Neild lawn.

Games were played and prizes won by Linda Moudree, Kay Thompson, and Carrie Lee Sangry.

The honored guests were seated at each end of a long table, their places marked by pink and white lighted cakes and place card favors marked places for guests Linda Moudree, Kay Thompson, Carrie Lee Sangry, Adalee Olsen, Judy Callina, Dianna Ulmer, Louise Marks, Myrna Davidson, Helen Damuth, Barbara Wallace, Margery Davis, Jane Huth, Barabara Plymale, Terry Sullivan, Barbara, Phyllis and Edwina Neild.

“Local News”

Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Brisbin and family and Mr. and Mrs. Art Olsen and family spent Sunday and Monday at Lake Harrison camping and fishing, also visiting Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Olsen. Al is laid up for the present due to a broken foot bone.

Helen and Jim Braley, daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Braley, are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Braley in Vallier this week.

Mrs. R.J. Nydegger, her son, Ray Nydegger, who is on leave from the Navy and visiting here, and her daughter, Mrs. Paul Plymane and daughter, Paula, returned from a tour of Yellowstone National Park.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kelly and daughters, Kitty and Patsy, and son, Pete, are spending a two-week vacation with relatives of Mr. Kelly’s in Mystic, Iowa.

1970

“Winston-Clasoil”

Mr. and Mrs. George Baum and Clarence visited in Helena last Tuesday evening with Mrs. Elsie Dallas.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cox and Chris, and Mrs. Cox’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nevin Swaveley, attended the Wilsall Rodeo on Sunday and visited with friends afterwards. Chris represented Broadwater County as Miss Rodeo Queen.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Masolo and son, David, attended the Southwest Montana Quarter Horse Show in Dillon on Saturday. They showed their stud “Jag’s Billy Reed,” which won third place. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Masolo.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clark enjoyed a Father’s Day dinner at Cave Bay Lodge at Canyon Ferry on Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baum and sons visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Baum and Clarence on Wednesday evening.

Ray Baum and Dennis Bieber are attending guard camp at Salt Lake City for two weeks and will return home this Sunday. Ray drove down with Tracy Plummer of Townsend.
