1903

“Local News”

The Berg Hardware Co. reports that business with them so far this spring has been exceptionally good. During the month of April just past, this firm’s trade was $4,000 in excess of April of last year.

John Hines and A.W. Tinsley took in Helena sights on Friday, the 1st.

Miss Clara Watson arrived in town Sunday evening and will remain for a few weeks with Mrs. M. Harrington.

Mrs. D.D McCarthy, who spent several days visiting friends and relatives in Butte, returned home Sunday evening.

All persons indebted to the firm of Byrne Bros. are requested to call and settle at once. Otherwise, accounts will be placed in the hands of an attorney for collection.

Han Richardson and wife of Confederate Creek were in town Tuesday.

W.S. Dodge of Winston transacted business in town Wednesday and Thursday.

“Class of Fifteen to Receive Diplomas Friday”

Tomorrow evening, Broadwater County High School will graduate a class of fifteen students. The commencement Exercises will be held in the Townsend Auditorium so that all can be accommodated.

Those receiving diplomas are as follows: Frank Barber, Bill Davidson, Ruth Burtt, Anna McClure, Irwin Crane, Emma Neild, Phoebe Kearns, Mary Paul, Imogene Troutman, Mable Webb, Carl Wall, Glenn Thompson, George Rollings, Ann Whaley and Josephine Connors.

“Local News”

Judge Wm. L. Ford came over from the springs on Monday and spent the day at the Court House transacting business connected with his duties as Judge.

Miss Marie Bliler arrived from Missoula to spend the week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bliler, in the valley.

Floyd Nelson of Forsyth spent two days the first of the week visiting Miss Lillian Crittenden, a former classmate of the Intermountain College.

1953

“Townsend Lad Injured in Fall from Horse”

Bradley White, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. H.G. White, was injured late Friday afternoon when he was thrown from a runaway horse. He sustained a fractured wrist, collar bone, received head injuries and internal injuries. Dr. Frank P. Nash, the attending physician, reported his condition favorable at this writing.

The accident occurred about 6:00 o’clock near the McArthur Grocery on Highway 10. The horse had done some considerable fast traveling and jumping before he stumbled throwing the young rider.

“Joint Birthday Party Held”

Marie and Janelle Kirscher, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kirscher celebrated their birthday anniversaries at a joint party Tuesday afternoon. Marie was five years old May 5, and Janelle was three years old April 27.

Guests were Mrs. Clayton Ogle and sons, Randy and Bobby; Mike Crawford; Mrs. Elwood Ragar and daughters, Jan and Judy; Mrs. Gene Lane and son, Bradley, and daughter, Shelley; Mary D’Arcy and grandsons, Mike and Tommy Finnegan; Mrs. Logan Davis and sons, Lance and Scott; Mrs. Robert Kieckbusch and son, Jim, and daughters, Christy and Barbara; Mrs. James Schneider and daughter, Teressa and son, Billy; Lee Ann Jeffries; Keith Kirscher; Mrs. Charles Nowlan and sons, Andy and Billy; Mrs. Glenn Kirscher and Mrs. Lee Beers.

“Toston Briefs”

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wogamon of Townsend were Mother’s Day visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wogamon and Tim.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Arden and family were Mother’s Day guests of Mrs. Wayne Herrington in Winston.

Larry Johnson was a weekend guest of Tim Wogamon.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hardgrove visited at the Bill Hardgrove home Saturday afternoon and evening.

Scott and Jema Miller are home for the summer vacation from their studies at Ricks College.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bieber Jr. and family visited Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bieber Sr. and family.

Miss Jean Berberet left Tuesday for Yellowstone Park, where she has summer employment.

Calvin Whitney was a medical patient in Shodair Hospital last week.
