On the morning of Saturday, April 4th, the Lions Club Annual Easter Egg hunt was held at Heritage Park. The Townsend Broadwater County Lions Club is part of the Lions Club International. There were four separate areas marked off for kids ages 0 to 3 years old, 4 to 6 years old, 7 to 9 years old, and 10 to 12 years old. An estimated total of 300 to 500 kids were lined up in their separate age group boundaries, waiting for the siren of a nearby fire truck to sound at exactly 10 AM.

Once the siren sounded, it was like throwing a small rock into a beehive. The kids were off and running, and probably the majority of all the plastic Easter eggs were found within a minute or so. There were lots of happy kids.

Two ladies were dressed up as Easter bunnies, and often the parents of the kids took photos of the kids and the two bunnies. Inside some of the eggs there was a piece of paper telling the kids that they had won a chocolate bunny as a prize.

Teena Larson, the President of the Townsend Broadwater County Lions Club and Dela Chatriand, the Treasurer, handed out two different foot-high candy awards. One was Peter Rabbit, and the other was Hopsalot. It didn’t take long for the winners to start chomping on their chocolate prizes!

Special thanks go to the volunteers of the Lions Club. Every year they do a fantastic job of sponsoring this event.
