1902
“Local News”
Remember the old timers' ball at the Auditorium on Oct. 31.
The oldest inhabitant has not seen a better fall for securing crops than we are enjoying at the present time.
The foundation of the C.A. Wipple’s house is finished and part of the lumber on the ground to go ahead with the frame.
Glen Lenhart, who has been visiting in the vicinity of his old home in Ohio for about sixty days, returned to Townsend Sunday morning. He has commenced work again, well satisfied with Montana.
Edward Buffington of Toston, who has been engaged in mining in that section of the country for several years and who has acquired extensive interests in the vicinity of the new copper mines, was in town a few days during the past week.

“Local News”
A large crowd attended the donkey basketball last night at the high school gym. $18.00 was realized as net proceeds for the athletic association of the high school, Principal W.L. Emmert reported.
“Canton Valley News”
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Matthews were pleasantly surprised on Saturday evening, Oct. 11th, at their ranch home on Confederate, when relatives and friends from Helena and Townsend and close neighbors walked into the house to greet the couple on their 25th anniversary. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed, and a sumptuous supper was served around midnight. The honored couple received a great many beautiful and useful gifts.
“Toston News”
Art Jersey, who is stationed at Fort Ord, Cal., is shaking hands with old friends and enjoying a fifteen day furlough.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Sitton moved from Radersburg and are living in the Robert Connors house.
Cleve Wallace unloaded 29 cars of feeder lambs this last week.
Ed Gruber and Chas. Stimpson were among lucky huntsmen this week when they each bagged a wild goose.
Butte business visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Seaman, daughter Edna, and Mrs. Vimpany. They reported considerable snow on the hill.

“Toston Briefs”
Mr. and Mrs. George Wallace of Bozeman attended church services and then called on old Toston friends last Sunday.
Helyn and Linda Belknap, Mrs. W.R. Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Haines Thompson were visitors in Bozeman Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hal Harrigfeld and family of Ashton, Idaho, were weekend visitors at the George Harrigfeld home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Plummer were business callers in Butte Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berberet and family were Sunday night dinner guests at the Earl Webb home.
Ann Thurston, Dorothy Smith and Nellie Greaves attended Eastern Star in White Sulphur Springs Wednesday.
“Radersburg News”
Miss Terri Ralls spent Friday night in Townsend, a guest of Miss Kay Thompson.
Mrs. Jack Williams visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Williams in Helena several days last week.
John and Bill Williams were business callers in Augusta Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bottler and Mrs. Mertie Williams were visiting friends and relatives in Townsend Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Mill Lavinder and son of Townsend and Mrs. Walter Rauser were shopping in Butte Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Harris and children spent Friday and Saturday with relatives in Butte.
1975
“School Bus Driver”
Marvin Meyer is an extra bus driver for the local schools, as well as head custodian at the grade and high schools here in Broadwater County. Marvin has been driving buses for over 20 years, beginning for his father-in-law, Bill Bristow, when he ran three buses for the Townsend schools. He also drove for brother-in-law, Wally Bristow, and now substitutes for Merle Sears when needed. Marvin has been employed by the local school system for eight years. Marvin is a frequent driver of school buses on out of town trips for boys and girls sporting events.
“Sitton Places a Third in PP&K”
Winners of Townsend’s Punt, Pass and Kick Contest, sponsored by Townsend Ford, journeyed to Billings for the divisional contest last Saturday. The boys competed against winners from all over the division, which runs from Townsend to Forsyth and Red Lodge to Lewistown.
Representing their respective age groups were Paul Brastrup, Bruce Turney, Russell Howard, John Bolderback, Dean Helmick and Doug Sitton. Sitton was the only one to place, taking third in the 13-year-old division.
“East of Townsend” News
Mrs. Bill Guffey and Lisa Graveley drove to Billings Saturday on business and toured the Freedom Train while there.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grover and family have moved into their new home in Townsend. Mr. and Mrs. Harlen Smith and two children from San Antonio, Texas have moved into the Grover’s mobile home at Ed’s Court. Mr. Smith is employed by Kaiser Cement at Montana City.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Marks of Missoula spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sewell Marks. Mrs. Sewell Marks accompanied them to Butte Saturday to see the Ice Capades.
Carynn Bieber and Naomi Lucas, both of East Helena, visited Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bieber.
Mr. and Mrs. James Beck of Poplar visited Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Bucy.
Doug Diehl spent the weekend from Carroll College with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Diehl, and family.
