Each year, local 4-H youth come together for competition and comradery at the County Fair. Youth members spend hours baking the finest foods, grooming and caring for their animals, shining their boots, and a multitude of other preparations to showcase a year’s hard work. This year was no exception with another great year for Broadwater County 4-H with 118 4-H members participating in the Fair with 726 exhibits. Here are a few event highlights.

Animal Divisions

The Fair showcased the hard work and dedication across a wide range of animal projects. In the Beef Division, Kayla McDonald earned Grand Champion in Senior Showmanship with Kortney Merritt taking Reserve. In Junior Showmanship, Rosyn Reynolds received grand champion, and Abigail McCauley was reserve champion. Cheyanne Douglas claimed Grand Champion in Market Beef followed by Kayla McDonald as Reserve. Sawyer Harrigfeld took top honors in Breeding Beef.

In the Cat Division, Thea Moos was awarded Grand Champion in Junior Showmanship with Magdalena Delgado as Reserve. The Dog Division saw Keira Christensen as Agility Grand Champion and Haedyn Poe as reserve. In obedience, Magnus Garnas received grand champion while Poe was reserve champion. In Pocket Pets, Gage Douglas earned Overall Grand Champion.

The Meat Goat Division was led by Scarlett McDaniel (Senior Showmanship) and MaKenzie Truesdell (Junior Showmanship), with Reserve titles going to Arabella McDaniel and Parker Merritt, respectively. Gage Douglas and Parker Truesdell topped the Super Starter Showmanship class with grand and reserve. Cole Shumway earned Grand Champion in Market Goat, with Scarlett McDaniel as Reserve.

In the Dairy Goat Division, Cheyanne Douglas swept both Senior Showmanship and Overall Dairy Goat titles with Autumn Henke as reserve Senior Showman. MaKenzie Truesdell was grand champion for Junior Showmanship and Madelyne Truesdell was reserve, while Gage Douglas won Super Starter Showmanship.

The Horse Division featured Autumn Henke as Senior Showmanship Grand Champion, and Haylie Funkhouser and Addy Mosher leading the Junior class as grand and reserve, respectively. Hannah Funkhouser took top honors in Super Starter Showmanship.

The Poultry Division for Senior Showmanship saw Grace Kroeger as grand champion and Autumn Henke as reserve, while MaKenzie and Madelyne Truesdell led the Junior class as grand and reserve, respectively. In Super Starter Showmanship, Gage Douglas was grand champion, and Torren Dana was reserve. MaKenzie Truesdell also swept both Grand and Reserve in Market Poultry Pen. Autumn Henke and Cheyanne Douglas were named Overall Bird Grand and Reserve Champions.

In Rabbits, Cheyanne Douglas led Senior Showmanship, while MaKenzie Truesdell and Kay Crusch topped the Junior class. Parker Truesdell and Quincy Santi placed in Super Starter Showmanship as grand and reserve. Tucker Volkman and Gage Douglas earned top honors in Market Rabbit Pen, while Parker Truesdell and MaKenzie Truesdell were named Overall Rabbit Grand and Reserve Champions.

The Sheep Division featured Kaitlyn Noyes and Cassidy Flynn in Senior Showmanship as the grand and reserve showman, with Rosyn Reynolds and Hallee Harrigfeld leading the Junior class. Keira and Grace Christensen placed in Super Starter Showmanship as grand and reserve champions. Kaitlyn Noyes swept both Grand and Reserve in Market Lamb, while Rosyn Reynolds earned top honors in Breeding Lamb.

Finally, in the Swine Division, Spencer Braaten and Kaitlyn Noyes led Senior Showmanship, while Myla Graveley and Tana Santi topped the Junior class. Ryal Lancello and Elena Ragen placed grand and reserve in Super Starter Showmanship. Braaten and Graveley also earned Grand and Reserve in Market Swine, with Braaten took top honors in Breeding Swine as well.

On Saturday, top livestock showman participated in the Round Robin Showmanship where participants show every species to determine a top overall showman. The Senior Grand Champion Round Robin Showman was Spencer Braaten and Reserve Champion was Kaitlyn Noyes. The Junior Grand Champion Round Robin Showman was Myla Graveley and Reserve Champion was Hallee Harrigfeld.

It was also a great year at the 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale which set records for the highest grossing sale and number of animals sold. The sale auction total was $365,522.50 with 103 animals sold. A big THANK YOU goes to our community for supporting the sale and 4-H youth!

Indoor Divisions

The 4-H Indoor exhibits highlighted a wide range of skills and creativity from participants. In Animal Science, Autumn Henke earned top honors in the Senior division, while Gage Douglas led the Junior category. Junior winner Jayden Flynn represented Engineering & Technology. In Environmental & Natural Science, Kaitlyn Noyes and Andrew Beatty were recognized as Senior and Junior winners, respectively. Family & Consumer Science saw Karolyn Schmaus and Kathryn Six take top spots in both Senior and Junior divisions.

Mishayla Lambott earned Senior honors in Plant Science. In Communication & Expressive Arts, Kaitlyn Noyes and Kaylee Flynn were awarded top placements. Kaitlyn Noyes also excelled in Leadership & Personal Development, alongside Junior winner Abigail McCauley. Finally, in Foods & Nutrition, Karolyn Schmaus and Kathryn Six once again led their respective age groups. The overall 4-H Indoor Exhibitor Senior Grand Champion was Kaitlyn Noyes and Reserve Champion was Autumn Henke. The Overall Junior Grand Champion Exhibitor was Gage Douglas and Reserve was Kathryn Six.

Members participating with 4-H indoor exhibits had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction with their 4-H-made goods. There were 18 items sold in the silent auction, which raised $1000.
