1941
“Canton Valley News”
Mrs. Woodrow Wallace and Mrs. Clifford Wallace and baby and Mrs. Sawyer of Maine, mother of Mrs. Clifford Wallace, were guests at the W.C. Daniels home one day last week.
Pete Barker and Paul Plymale drove the Chas. Barker herd of cattle over the range on Sunday to the Wallace Burt place on Sheep Creek.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weiferich, Mrs. Joe Meyers, and daughter Irene drove to the Winston Valley on Sunday to visit their mothers, Mrs. Antone Meyers and Mr. and Ms. Orville Olsen.
Mrs. Homer W. Rotz of Helena, Mrs. Maude Stafford, and granddaughter Jackie of the Winston Valley were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henry and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hardgrove and daughter, Miss Geraldine and son, Gene, were Sunday evening dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Merritt in Helena.
1958
“Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts Hold Investiture”
The Girl Scout and Brownie Scout Investiture was held Friday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the multi-purpose room.
All of the girls entered with the Flag Precession, then everyone sang “America”. The Candle Ceremony was given by Mary J. Stiner, Cathy Ouren, Mary Lee Etzwiler, and Kay Matthews. The Girl Scouts then gave their Girl Scout promise and sang the Scout song.
Leaders for the Girl Scouts are Mrs. Herb Sprout, Mrs. Don Keltz and Mrs. Vance Rambert. Those receiving their Girl Scout pins and membership pins were: Kay Delger, Betty Dufresne, Mary Etzwiler, Artha Freebury, Patty Freebury, Clara French, Alice French, Lois Haward, Cheryl LeMire, Kay Matthews, Nancy Odhum, Cathy Ouren, Mary J. Stiner, Marcella Stennett and Mary Lou Thompson.
The Brownie Scouts then gave their Scout Promise and received their pins.
Leaders for Troop No. 2 are Mrs. Charles Davis and Mrs. Ray Doig. Brownies in this troop receiving their second-year membership pins were Trudi Bucy, Lois Campbell, Candace Davis, Donna Doig, Dorothy Dig, Barbara Gabisch, Marie Kirscher, Laurie Lanning, Lynn Meyer, Susan Rains and Wanda Shorten.
Leaders for Brownie Scout Troop No. 3 are Mrs. Bill Aldworth and Mrs. Clint Holland. This is also a second-year troop and those receiving their membership pins were: Sharon Adams, Susan Aldworth, Wanda Cobban, Cynda Holland, Connie Hysell, Vicky Klein, Mary Ouren, Susan Reynolds and Jeri Rosetta.
Brownie Scout Troop No. 5 is lead by Mrs. Garrison Rains and Mrs. Noel Rosetta. This is a first-year Brownie Troop and girls receiving their Brownie Scout pins were: Glenda Campbell, Lynda Damuth, Joan Delger, Nancy Fryhling, Linda Gilmore, Laura LeMire, Viola Merritt, Mary McNulty, JoAnne Ouren, Debra Pennington, Stephanie Rains, Linda Schwisow and Susan Wallace.
The program closed with the Brownie Scouts singing the song, “There’s a Little Wheel a Turnin’”.
The mothers and teachers present were invited to stay and have coffee and cookies, which were furnished by the Scouts and served by the Leaders.
The Townsend Woman’s Club sponsors the Girl Scout organization. The council members are Mrs. Lee Todd, chairman (who acted as master of ceremonies for the Investiture), Mrs. R. Thompson, Mrs. G. Greene, Mrs. T. Watkin and Mrs. P. Cartwright.

“South of Townsend-Toston-Crow Creek”
Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Plummer and Todd, Terry and Jerrod Plummer were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Plummer.
Steve Berberet, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berberet and Susan Jersey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Jersey are among the seniors graduating from Carrol College May 4th at 4 p.m. at the P.E. Complex. The public is invited.
Valerie and Deena Horne, Vicky Rauser and Nancy Hossfeld attended the Rainbow meeting in Manhattan Tuesday.
Gladys Johnson, Sharon Lewis and Joyce Lane attended the Historical Society meeting Friday evening at the Museum.
Mrs. Henry Lohr helped with the Junior-Senior Banquet on Wednesday evening. Debra attended the dinner. Valerie Horne helped with the serving.
“Boys Attend Youth Retreat”
Mark Hinton, Don Walters and Mitchell Stocks attended a Youth /Retreat last weekend at Lakeside Lutheran Bible Camp on Flathead Lake. Over 120 youths from three states were present for the function, which shared several meetings with the Rocky Mountain District Council meeting of the American Lutheran Church. Rev. and Mrs. Robert Ohnstad represented Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.

“Around Town News”
Last Wednesday, Logan Davis and Eileen Perry were dinner guests of Ray and Marion Forrey. Ellie and Larry Magnat were dinner guests of the Forreys on Friday. Saturday, Irene Flesch was a dinner guest.
Myra Bridgewater, Marcia Bieber, and Lois Kimpton were among the area bowlers competing in the women’s state tournament in Great Falls over the weekend.
Saturday, Charlotte Lewis, Tammy Rauser and Tracy Spatzierath and Brittany participated in a Walk-A-Thon in Great Falls.
Kathy Shindoll and Jennilee and Amanda Domino participated in the horse show at the Helena fairgrounds on Sunday.
Doreen Sautter hosted a birthday party for Darleen Doig on Monday. Guests were Loretta Ryan, Helen Obert, Anna Brumfield, Frances Etzwiler, and Lavay Johnson.
