Aaron Tenesch, Vice President of Antimony Division of US Antimony Corporation (USA), spent part of his morning Wednesday answering questions from Broadwater County Commissioners about his new flotation mill at Radersburg. He indicated the processing facility had passed its Department of Environmental Quality review and was composing documents about the area’s historic deficiencies and cleanup.

He indicated the mining company is thinking about buying more land around the mine because the facility needs more space.

“We are fully operational. We have one day crew working four 10-hour days, and we plan to upgrade to more work as we get our electrical deficiencies within the mill upgraded."

The commissioners were interested in the number of workers the mine facility will employ. He said they have six employees currently, who travel from Butte and Whitehall, people who are trained in mining laboratory management. The mine superintendent has lived in this community for some time. They also operate a smelter facility in Thompson Falls, Montana, and are currently sending one truckload of ore to Radersburg per day, he said.

Tenesch explained Antimony is a critical mineral used in industry and the military. It is also a fire-retardant compound used in plastics and in roofing material. It is used in window glass to ensure clearness and in solar panels. Manufacturers mix Antimony with lead to make bullets. It is also used in soldering and in auto batteries.

According to the website Market Chameleon, a financial research and analysis group, the Radersburg flotation mill can concentrate the Stibnite to 60%, which meets the requirements for the $245 million contract USAMC has with the US Department of War. In a July 7 post, website authors indicated the facility is the only fully integrated Antimony producer outside China and Russia. The mill has an operational chain including mining and concentrating the ore as well as smelting the product.
