VFW Post 10010, Habitat for Humanity form New Partnership to Expand Homeownership for Veterans

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Helena Area Habitat for Humanity and VFW Post 10010 are proud to announce a new partnership, marked by the VFW’s inaugural $25,000 sponsorship commitment to support Habitat’s mission to expand affordable homeownership opportunities throughout the Helena area, including outreach to veterans who may benefit from Habitat’s homeownership programs.

Beyond financial support, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to serving those who have served our country. Helena Habitat and VFW Post 10010 will work together to connect more veterans with Habitat’s affordable homeownership opportunities, share clear information about eligibility and the application process, and help ensure veteran families have access to the stability and opportunity that can come with owning a home.

As Montana continues to face one of the nation's most significant housing affordability challenges, partnerships like this are critical to creating lasting solutions. Helena Area Habitat for Humanity is working to dramatically increase the supply of affordable homes, building at least 12 housing units in Helena and East Helena this year and through Rose Hills- a mixed-income, multigenerational neighborhood of 1500 homes, 46 acres of parks and green space, a neighborhood center, and more. Helena Habitat is making plans to break ground on the infrastructure to support Rose Hills this fall.

"This partnership is about more than a sponsorship," said Jacob Kuntz, Executive Director for Helena Area Habitat for Humanity. "It's about bringing together two organizations that believe in service, community, and ensuring that veterans and working families have the opportunity to build a stable future through homeownership."

"The VFW has long believed that our service does not end when we take off the uniform," said Past Post Commander Tim Graff of VFW Post 10010. "People often say that no one does more for veterans than the VFW, and we're proud to live up to that commitment every day. But we also know that the best way to serve veterans is by helping build stronger communities where veterans and their families can thrive. Our mission is to continue serving veterans, strengthening our communities, and helping build a stronger nation for future generations. That's why we're excited to begin this partnership with Helena Area Habitat for Humanity. Their commitment to dignity, opportunity, and service reflects many of the same values we hold dear. We see this sponsorship not as a single project, but as the beginning of a lasting relationship that will create new opportunities for veterans, military families, and our entire community.”
