Roadside Fire on Highway 287 Near Winston

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Anonymous volunteers stopped to help put out a fire beside the road near Winston Thursday about 11:45 a.m. One lady began beating the fire with a rug she carried in her car.

The fire apparently started when a driver with a trailer was dragging a chain, according to Broadwater Rural Fire Chief Ed Shindoll: “I could see where the fire skipped alongside the road.” Shindoll said the 1.2- acre fire was quickly brought under control by Winston Department volunteers and the county tanker truck. “Fortunately, we were able to put out the fire before it ran into the adjacent wheat field,” he said.
