1903
“Local News”
Grace Averill has been spending the week with her friends (the Hirt girls) on Deep Creek.
Miss Alice D’Arcy has been spending the week in Helena.
A.E. Spriggs of Butte spent Sunday in Townsend and vicinity on business.
Weslie Beatty of Beaver Creek was in town a day or two the last of the week, loading his wool for the Billings market.
J.P. Marks has so far improved that he can ride out to the ranch and look after business there. He cannot, however, walk without crutches as yet
“Toston Topics”
Some hoboes, who paid our town a visit the last of the week, made themselves very friendly at some of the places. They looked in at most all the windows in town Saturday morning and were even so bold as to go through Mr. Linton’s house about seven o’clock, when there was no one at home but the two small girls. There was nothing missed after they had left, but people do not like to have strangers so friendly when no one is at home.

“Another Shock of Earthquake Felt”
Another earthquake shock was felt vividly in Townsend last Friday morning about 8:00 o’clock. While the shock did no damage, it nevertheless was quite severe and caused comment and fright.
Other tremblers have been felt at different times. Another discernable quiver occurred about 5:40 this Thursday morning.
“Toston News”
The Misses Mable May, Marguerite Quinn, and Eva Stubblefield spent Sunday at the Tennyson home at Canton.
Miss Carolyn Meloy and Tom Sherlock of Townsend were visiting at the Will Sherlock home Thursday.
Mrs. John Schiavon returned to her home in Homestake Monday after a two weeks visit with her mother, Mrs. Turman.
Dan Shull has reopened his barber shop in Toston, having returned from Manhattan.
“Local News”
Miss Mary Connors departed for Helena on Wednesday to visit her sister, Miss Margaret, for a few days.
Miss Eva Stubblefield spent Sunday with her parents near Toston. She is making her home with Mrs. John Paterson while she is employed in the office of the County Clerk and Recorder in Townsend.
Mrs. Ray Ward, Mrs. F. L. Hollaway and Miss Flora Averill motored to Helena on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Williams, Sr. of Radersburg, were Townsend visitors on Wednesday.
1953
“Crow Creek News”
Miss Althea Hale and Miss Barbara Cook of Gridley, Calif., arrived on Saturday for a visit in the home of Miss Hale’s sister, Mrs. Rowland Kimpton and family. They toured Yellowstone Park en route.
Mr. and Ms. H.G. White of Townsend drove to the Rowland Kimpton ranch on Sunday evening to visit their son, Barry, who is working there and fast becoming a good hay hand. Hay is very short in this part of the county due to lack of moisture.
Fire broke out in the forest near the Glendale Ranger Station and several from the valley were called to help extinguish it. Ranger Edwards reports that it is well under control.
“Has Birthday”
Deena Hollaway celebrated her 8th birthday anniversary at a cabin party Monday at Rillway on Deep Creek, July 13, sharing the event with five of her friends. The birthday cake centered a table with pines for a background, and pine squirrel baskets were used for candy favors. After lunch, the girls enjoyed wading and duck paddling in the cool waters of the creek with temperatures out on the highway soaring to almost 100 degrees. Those going out with the young hostess were Marnie Lanning, Suzanne Johnson, Georgia McCormick, Sharon Rains, and Donna Fogland and Mrs. Fogland and Mrs. Hollaway.
1970
“Crow Creek News”
Danny Moudree is spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cox of Winston.
Thursday, Mrs. Albert Kimpton and Mrs. Bill Kimpton drove Beth Conrad, Johnny, Clifford, Kathy and Tim Kimpton to the circus in Bozeman.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Moudree and Marcia and Miss Lee Anne Jersey went to Lewistown Saturday and Sunday, where they attended Mrs. Moudree’s class reunion.
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hensley were Mr. and Mrs. Erv Davis of Bozeman.
Nancy and Bobby Hossfeld attended a Farmers Union camp at York Thursday through Sunday.
Providing music for a dance in Three Forks Saturday night were Mike and Randy Ferrat, David Williams, and Mark and George Conrad. They have formed a musical group called the “Justus”. They play guitars and drums.
Mrs. Junior Lewis entertained at a barbeque Sunday, honoring her husband, Junior, and daughter, Mrs. Gordon Sanderson, on their birthdays. Other guests were Ronald and Gust Sanderson of Toston, Gordon Sanderson and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lewis and family.
Mrs. Roy Berg returned to her home in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, after spending some time with her family, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Hunsaker, for a while.
“Bill Kitto Is Eighteen”
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kitto were hosts at a picnic up Crow Creek Sunday afternoon, honoring their son, Bill, on his 18th birthday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Horan Gary, Eddie, Greg and Gay, and Gary Paul of Bozeman; Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Kito and family, Miss Pearl Kitto, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kitto, Rick, Don and Brad Kitto.
