Eleven Fair games, a new parade coordinator, and confirmed entertainment acts are among the highlights as the Broadwater County Fair Board gets its programming locked in ahead of this year's fair.
At a meeting chaired by Tayla Clark, the Open Class Supervisor, Board Chair, and members finalized plans for a games area to be set up south of the commercial building on Saturday. Clark and Public Relations member Lauren McLaughlin — who was absent from the meeting — co-planned the lineup, which includes a lucky duck, cakewalk, toilet paper toss, ping pong shake, elephant march, ring toss, potato sack race, three-legged race, wheelbarrow race, balloon pop, and egg walk. Tickets will be $5 for 20. Supply costs are estimated at approximately $330, and roughly 10 volunteers will be needed. The Rotary Club and an FFA support group have both been contacted.
The board also confirmed entertainment for the event. Honeyhive is set to perform a dance show Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and a robotics demonstration has also been confirmed. A mechanical bull and face painter are still being finalized, with the face painter potentially integrated into the ticket system and working Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.
Commission Liaison Jesse Swenson reported on a joint session with the Rodeo Board, relaying several logistical updates. The airport has been approved for overflow parking on Friday and Saturday nights. The livestock committee's wash rack is progressing, and the horse show has been moved to Wednesday at 10 a.m. Beer gardens will accept "country cash," and the ATM will stay in its same location. Llamas are confirmed for Saturday. Carla Ahern has been named as the new parade coordinator.
Vendor Supervisor Val Hornsveld reported that applications have gone out to returning vendors. Three food vendors have confirmed: Smokehouse, Penny's Mississippi, and Judy Taylor, who has reserved two spots. Vendors for a Chinese food booth have not yet responded.
Karen Noyes, the 4-H Council Liaison and Vice Chair, reported that fair entry is open, with about a dozen exhibitors registered so far. A Facebook post with a QR code linking to the online fair book is live.
The board's next meeting has been moved from July 9 to July 16 at 5:15 p.m.
