Poker Run Participants Love the Ride

Gordon Huft spoke enthusiastically about the Poker Run All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) event on Saturday. “This is my 6th year making the run. I like to help out with raising funds for Broadwater Search and Rescue. Mostly, I like to get out to do something different.”

Huft said this year’s run was a little over 60 miles through Winston, up Beaver Creek to Crow Creek, where he and his crew took a shortcut from Crow Creek to Indian Creek, then home.

This year, funds raised from the event will be split among Broadwater Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services Ambulance Service, and the 4th of July 250th Celebration. Glueckert said they raised $1,160 in the 50/50 drawing and $1,400 from the poker hand game. There were 237 poker hands, according to Chairperson Anna Glueckert, with 165 registered vehicles signed up for the ride.

Serving smoked hamburgers was Chris Starr’s Heleburger concession trailer. Starr has operated Rock Starr barbecue for 8 years in Helena and has a restaurant in Helena’s Reeder’s Alley.

Chamber of Commerce members would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make the event successful and to Ted Culbertson, owner of Top Gun Auto, for allowing the event to unfold at his parking lot on Highway 287 North of Townsend. Also, would like to thank A da Z Concrete, Pitstop Porta Potty and Custom Sheds for use of the parking lot.
