Broadwater County Receives Release of Withheld State Funds Following Successful Audit Resolution.

Broadwater County is pleased to announce that the Montana Department of Administration (DOA) officially lifted its withholding order on the County’s state financial assistance payments, effective May 27, 2026.

The withholding was originally issued on January 15, 2026, pursuant to Montana Code Annotated (MCA) 2-7-513(3), due to unresolved repeat audit findings related to cash reconciliation identified in the County’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 and FY 2024 audits conducted by Denning, Downey & Associates, PC.

Following months of focused effort and collaboration, the DOA has confirmed that Broadwater County has successfully implemented corrective measures to address these findings. Specifically, the County demonstrated sufficient progress in resolving the significant repeat cash reconciliation issue and has taken appropriate corrective actions for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.

As a result of this determination:

• The state financial assistance withholding order has been lifted.

• All previously withheld payments will begin to be released to Broadwater County starting May 28, 2026.

The DOA commended Broadwater County for its cooperation and commitment throughout the process. In a formal letter, Danielle Vincent, CPA and Bureau Chief of the Local Government Services Bureau, recognized the County’s willingness to work constructively with state officials and acknowledged the improvements made in addressing audit findings.

“We appreciate the County’s willingness and efforts to work with the Local Government Services Bureau to achieve a successful resolution,” Vincent wrote. “We congratulate the County for making improvements in addressing these findings.”

Broadwater County leadership welcomes the resolution and emphasizes its commitment to maintaining strong financial practices and accountability moving forward.
