During the week prior to the observance of Memorial Day, many Broadwater County volunteers joined together to place American flags on the graves of our Veterans in remembrance and honor of their past military service to our Nation. While Memorial Day is actually May 30th and is to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, we place flags before the observed day, this year May 25th, at all Veterans’ graves with no distinction, including those from both sides of the Civil War, since the ground is typically frozen on Veterans Day. Flags are removed from the cemeteries often within a week following the observed Memorial Day.

This May, the weather was beautiful for placing flags throughout the County Cemeteries, and we want to thank all of the volunteers who took the time to join us to honor our Veterans.

Deep Creek Cemetery - Terry Bertram, Ken and Margie Urich, Roger Flynn and his sons, Elston and Jayden, Adam Six and his daughters Kathryn, Amelia, and Zola, Jennifer Beatty and her son Andrew, and cemetery worker Kevin Flynn.

Radersburg - Jackie Smith, Toston Blue Ribbon 4-H members

Centerville, Holy Cross and Canton - Terry Love and Gay Ann Masolo

Lavenia and Fairview -Karon and Johnny Kougioulis

If we have missed the placement of a flag on a veteran’s grave, please let me know so that we can add a flag. Also, note the veteran's name and grave location information so I can add that to our plot charts so the veteran will not be missed next year. Contact me by email, dymples43@gmail.com.
