Woods Broadwater County Sheriff In April 2026, Broadwater County Deputies, along with K9 Aki, took decisive action in one of the largest drugs and weapons seizures in our county's history. This case remains under investigation, but the results speak for themselves.
During a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving a neighborhood in Broadwater County, Deputies McBride and Rowe quickly recognized the need to escalate their investigation and called in Deputy Rasmussen and his K9 partner, Aki. K9 Aki alerted to the presence of narcotics, establishing probable cause for a search warrant. Deputies recovered approximately one-half pound of cocaine, two loaded handguns, and multiple cell phones from the vehicle.
The investigation didn't stop there. Deputies secured a second warrant for the suspect's residence, where they seized approximately one pound of psilocybin mushrooms, three handguns - including one stolen firearm - two rifles, a shotgun, and large quantity of ammunition.
“Let me be clear: this is exactly what proactive policing looks like. This is how we take drugs off our streets, recover stolen weapons, and protect our citizens from the dangers that come with narcotics and the drug trade.”
The leadership, teamwork, and determination shown by Deputy McBride, Deputy Rowe, Deputy Rasmussen, and K9 Aki made Broadwater County a safer place. I am proud to recognize their outstanding work by awarding them the Sheriff's Commendation Award.
As your Sheriff, I will continue to support proactive patrols, aggressive enforcement against drug trafficking, and a zero-tolerance approach to those who threaten the safety of our communities.
