The Bulldog track and field team had another packed week as they wrapped up the regular season portion of their season. First up was the John Cheek Top 8 B/C in Anaconda on Tuesday, May 5th: this meet features class B and C athletes from Southwestern Montana with the best-established marks this season. The rest of the week included a freshman meet in Great Falls and separate meets for the varsity and JV teams on Saturday in Dillon and Missoula.
The men’s varsity team won both the Top 8 and KLH meets with 100 and 92 points, respectively. Gavin Greene represented well for the distance squad with two wins and two runner-up finishes in six miles of racing in one week. Tannen Tuffelmire, Tavyn Anderson, and Jim Tew continue to impress in the sprints, hurdles, and field jumps, while Trace Giomi and Gavin Schmele keep outdoing themselves in the field throws. Jim added a state-qualifying mark in the triple jump with a huge mark of over 42 feet.
The lady’s varsity team finished in a tie for fifth and a second-place finish at the two meets. Sophomore Elaine MacDonald scored a ton of points this week with new PBs; her 400-meter dash time at Top 8 is now the all-time meet record!
