Obituary: Scott Owen Simon
Author: Family Of Scott Owen Simon

March 1, 1956 to April 29, 2026

Scott Owen Simon was born on March 1, 1956, in Townsend, Montana, to Elmer G. Simon of Windsor, Colorado, and Shirley Jeanne (Tintinger) Simon of Cascade, Montana.

Scott will be remembered by his friends and family as a happy man who was always smiling. His smile was big and bright, and he loved with every fiber of his being. He found joy in music, friendship, family, and the memories he made throughout his life. In high school, Scott was known for driving his blue GTO, a car he often spoke of with love and longing. Scott was also known by many of his close friends as “Parnelli,” a nickname earned in his younger years that stayed with him throughout life. As his friends would say, if you know, you know.

Scott and his family lived in Townsend before moving to Kalispell. They later returned to Townsend when Scott’s mother fell ill. In 2019, Scott moved to Helena with his wife at the time, where he spent his final years.

Scott married Becky (Miller) Simon, and although they later divorced in 2020, they shared 31 years of marriage and had one son, Shawn Simon. Shawn was Scott’s pride and joy.

Scott dedicated much of his life to hard work, including his years at the mill, working as a laborer, and at one point owning and operating a movie store in Townsend, Montana, where many in the community came to know him and enjoy his friendly personality. He continued working until progressive multiple sclerosis changed the course of his life. Scott lived with MS for 35 years, and early in his diagnosis, he could no longer walk. Even though he spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair, he continued to make the best of every day.

In later years, Scott’s greatest joy came from his grandchildren: Ian Simon, Avery Simon, and Robert “Cooper” Simon. He was also blessed with two more grandchildren when Shawn married Nichole (Weston) Simon, and her children, Lane and Aspyn Bantz, joined the family. Scott also became Papa to many children who were not related by blood, including the grandchildren of his caregivers who spent time with him. His caregivers became family to him in his final years, and their love and care meant so much.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Simon; his mother, Shirley Simon; and many other family members and friends who welcomed him home.

He leaves behind his son, Shawn Simon; daughter in law, Nichole (Weston) Simon; grandchildren Ian, Avery, Robert “Cooper,” Lane, and Aspyn; his brother, Dave Simon; many nieces and nephews; many aunts and uncles; many friends; his former wife, Becky (Miller) Simon; his true companion, Gizmo; and the family he formed with his caretakers and their families.

Scott passed surrounded by love, with his son, Shawn Simon; grandson, Cooper; daughter in law, Nichole Simon; and his caretaker by his side.

Scott was loved by many and will be deeply missed. As he left this earth, the nursery alarm sounded in the hospital, announcing that a new baby had entered the world, a beautiful reminder that as one life ends, another begins.

A private memorial will be held by his son in the near future. If you would like more information, please reach out to Shawn Simon or Nichole (Weston) Simon for details.
