The Montana track and field season has officially entered an exciting section of the schedule where three regions of the state host meets that feature top athletes regardless of class. The Russ Pilcher Top 10 meet in Missoula was the first such meet, being held last Tuesday, April 28th, featuring the top competitors in the West.

The North and South regions host their Top 10 meets in Sidney and Laurel on Tuesday, May 5th. Our Broadwater Bulldogs sent four athletes to this elite event.

Senior Trace Giomi made his first appearance at the prestigious meet in both the discus and shot put. He managed a pair of 6th place finishes with tosses of 141’8” and 46’2”. Fellow senior Kaitlyn Noyes qualified in both horizontal jumps, where she marked a distance of 16’2” in the long jump to finish 8th and a triple jump of 32’11.75” to place her 9th.

Junior Kyla Meissner qualified for the Top 10 meet in the 800-meter, 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs. Distance runners generally will not run in more than one race at a time-shortened meet like this, so she chose to focus on the one-mile distance where she ran her personal best time of 5:08.27 which placed her 3rd. Fellow junior Jim Tew landed a long jump of 19’10” to finish 8th in his first appearance at Top Ten.

The entire Bulldog track team traveled to the Laurel Sports Complex for the Harlo/Park City Invitational Meet on Saturday, May 2nd, along with 23 other schools. The ladies outscored Huntley Project by one point to secure their first team victory of the season, while the men tallied 43 points to tie for third.
