Broadwater County Trust Board Funds Lions Club Safety Upgrade for 2025 Season

This is part three of a four-part series of articles, highlighting the projects that the Broadwater County Trust Board has supported this past year.

The Broadwater County Trust Board approved an $11,550 grant to help the Broadwater County Lions Club upgrade the deep-frying system in its well-known corndog wagon, bringing the operation into compliance with the Montana state fire code. The funding was awarded in April 2025 as part of the Trust Board’s ongoing support for local recreation-related projects.

The Lions Club requested the grant to replace its aging fryer with a new Autofry unit equipped with a self-contained fire suppression system—an upgrade required by State Fire Marshal Dirk Johnson. The club’s previous setup has served Townsend for years at major community events, including rodeo and Fall Fest.

Kim Kondelik, speaking on behalf of the club, said the new programmable fryer will reduce oil exposure, improve safety, and streamline operations. Kondelik estimates the club sells more than 2,000 corndogs at each major event, making the equipment essential to its fundraising efforts.
