Broadwater High School sophomore Eyden Thompson placed second (Gold) at the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Conference at Montana State University in Bozeman in March. His mental health presentation has qualified him for the FCCLA National Competition in Washington, D.C.
Thompson will present his awareness presentation on mental health at the national conference July 5-10. He had presented it to Broadwater County Social Services, to the Townsend Senior Center, BHS freshmen, and to 4 English classes at the school. Community members and students heard the message as he talked about mental health statistics, risk factors, and signs presented by individuals in crisis with mental health problems. He emphasized how to help someone and what resources are available to help those in crisis.
With a grant from Townsend Rotary, Thompson and his family hope to be able to make the trip. He will be accompanied by his mother, Jamie, and FCCLA Advisor Shae Bruusema in July.
For those community members interested in supporting Thompson, an event will be held at Trailhead Christian Church on Saturday, May 9, beginning at 5:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Jamie at (406) 439-7519.
