Future Farmers of America Club Wins at State Convention

The BHS FFA team competed in the State Convention from March 31st to April 4th. Multiple of the 26 members of the FFA chapter placed in competition. The Broadwater Chapter was named a Silver Star Chapter. This recognized Broadwater’s active Supervised Agricultural Experience Program, which symbolizes the hard work, time, and effort that the FFA Chapter put in this year. The Broadwater Chapter also received the 2nd-place Montana Department of Agriculture Building Communities Award. This award recognizes FFA chapters for outstanding community service, local development, and agricultural engagement in the community.

Five seniors received individual awards, including the FFA State Degree. This is the highest honor awarded to junior or senior members. They are members who have put significant time into their Supervised Agriculture Experience, have participated in state and chapter activities, and have shown leadership skills through FFA. The individuals who were recognized for their commitment to agricultural education are: Kaitlyn Noyes, Spencer Braaten, Gavin Schmele, Aiden Kitto, and Ashley Sanderson.

Spencer Braaten and Kaitlyn Noyes also earned proficiencies for their Supervised Agriculture Experience projects. Kaitlyn Noyes was awarded a Gold Award in Beef Production. Spencer Braaten was awarded first place in Ag Sales as well as a Gold Award in Swine Production. Aiden Kitto was awarded a Star Placement, which is a top award for Supervised Agriculture Experience projects that focus on employment, internships, and job experience.

BHS students showed off their JAM (Junior Agricultural Mechanics) projects. Vincent Montoya and Gavin Schmele created a donation box. Savannah Paulsen and Cheyanne Douglas made a folding bar. Both of those projects received a white ribbon. Those who received red ribbons for their projects were Colter Schaible and Carter Sommer, who crafted a snowmobile trailer; Heston Vandenacre and Issac Brakefield, who made a horseshoe table; and Kade Swanton, Tristin Owensby, and Morgan Morre, who worked together on a Ford F-150. Tiegen Volkman received a blue ribbon for his work on a truck bumper.

Overall, the BHS chapter placed 4th in parliamentary procedure, 9th in livestock, 34th in sales, 40th in horse, 8th in agronomy, and 19th in ATMs. The chapter also placed 4th in vet science. Kaitlyn Noyes placed 3rd individually, and Ashley Sanderson placed 5th. The chapter placed 13th in Floriculture, where Lexi Daies placed 9th individually.

BHS FFA chapter had a very successful state convention and year. All 26 members of the chapter put in countless hours and effort into the group and their projects.
