“Local News”
A good warm rain would be appreciated just at this time.
Berg Bros. Co. offer 20 boxes of good apples at 95 cents per box.
Nicholis Bowhay, accompanied by Miss Beatrice Day, joined the list of sight-seers at Helena on Wednesday.
Miss Hallie Davis came over from Butte Tuesday and went at once to the home ranch of her grandfather, J.R Marks. She was met at the train by her mother and other relatives.
Mrs. J.W. Tinsley is erecting a neat barn on the rear of her residence lots, which greatly improves the property.
Masters Louis and Chester Pool of Confederate Creek were in town on Saturday, returning home Sunday.
1925
“Local News”
Mr. and Mrs. Adah Kimpton and daughter, Lucille, came over from Wilsall on Wednesday and called on Townsend friends.
Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas and daughter, May, and Mr. Peter Gross departed in their new Buick touring car for Iowa on Friday of last week. They expect to be absent several weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Whaley will move to Helena about the first of June after selling their drug store here to Mr. L.E. Griffith.
Miss Helen Connors will leave for Yellowstone National Park about the first of June, where she will work for the company during the season at Mammoth Hotel as auditor.
Mrs. Ada Renshaw is spending the week with her sister, Mrs. Chas. Shaw, in Townsend, coming out from home in Helena.
C.W. Towne and party of Butte motored through Townsend today (Thursday) after visiting in the capital city and were homeward bound when they stopped over in our town, traveling via Dogtown cut off and the Harding highway.
1953
“Toston News”
There will be square dancing at the P.T.A. building this Friday night, May 29. This will be the last session of the school year, so everybody be sure to come.
The Toston school children and teachers went to Townsend Friday and participated in the Play Day. Patsy Smith received a blue ribbon for first place in the first grade spelling contest. All the children reported a good time.
The school year ended Tuesday and Mrs. Clara Richardson, lower-grade teacher, reports that she had two perfect attendance students in her room. They are Eddy and Gary Spatzierath. Bobby Flynn was the best speller in the third grade for the term, with Dick Berberet a close second. Jeanie Greaves was first in spelling in the second grade for the school term. Each of these children was awarded a prize by their teacher for their outstanding work and effort.
1970
“Local Students Participate in Science Fair”
Several Townsend students in grades five through eight traveled to East Helena and participated in a science fair there, Friday, May 15. Those participating and ratings received were:
Grade five – Susan Swenson, superior; Kathlene Hoppe and Doug Pottruff, excellent; Ron Thompson, Richard Ragen, Kerry Sullivan and Billy Walker, good; Connie Diehl, Dawn Lyng and Debra Lyng, participants.
Grade six – David Brown, Robert Burtch and Kim Bucy, good; Jon Berg, Tim Holling, Sidney Holling, Debra Lohr and Tim Wogamon, participants.
Grade seven – Vonnie Trarbach, superior; Kathy Evans and Jim Booher, excellent; Ricky Rarthule, Dale Merrill, Beth Meyer and Mark Hohn, Good; Kevin Walker and Dan Ouren, participants.
Grade eight – Doug Diehl, superior, and Tom Ragen, Good.
A total of 184 students participated from Townsend, East Helena, Clancy and Boulder.
