Townsend Drug and Spirits Changes Hands

MT43 News Reporter

Two pharmacists from Helena are the new owners of Townsend Drug and Spirits as of March 1. Hugh and Annie Daniels have purchased the pharmacy and liquor store from Seth and Charis Wolfgram.

Both Hugh and Annie are from Montana. Hugh was born and raised in St. Ignatius and completed his undergraduate and doctoral degrees at the University of Montana in Missoula, MT. Annie is a fifth-generation Montanan from Butte, MT. She began her undergraduate degree at Montana State University in Bozeman before completing it in her hometown at Montana Tech. She also completed her doctoral degree in pharmacology at the University of Montana.

Hugh, a licensed pharmacist for over a decade, has been in charge at Townsend Drug & Spirits since the summer of 2025. Annie joined the team in December. Hugh is a familiar face to many with his past retail pharmacy experience at Walgreens, Safeway, and St Peter’s Health Broadway Pharmacy in Helena. Additionally, he has a different edge of experience in long-term care pharmacy and hopes to bring this service to Townsend.

Annie has experience in community pharmacy for 15 years and has concurrently practiced for 10 years in a clinical setting, most recently as a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist in Helena.

Hugh said he and Annie feel fortunate to have this opportunity to pull together their diverse skill set to serve Townsend and the surrounding areas. The family, including two children, is looking for a housing in Townsend or the surrounding area. They currently live in Montana City.

Charis and Seth Wolfgram have served Broadwater County at Townsend Drug for “almost 10 years to the day,” according to Charis. They have no future plans as yet but are set on helping out Annie and Hugh as needed, and “finishing getting their daughters, Reese (already graduated) and Harper, graduated from Broadwater High School.

Charis expressed her thankfulness for the community: “Seth and I are thankful for this community’s support of our business and for supporting our girls in Townsend Schools. It has been a great place to raise a family and run a business.”
