The online enrollment portal will close on March 1, 2026. Qualified Montana taxpayers only have a few more days to enroll their properties to receive reduced tax rates for their primary residences (homesteads) or long-term rental property.
The fastest way for taxpayers to enroll their property is online at homestead.mt.gov. Mailing a paper application form will add processing time. Paper applications for the 2026 tax year received after March 1 are ineligible to be processed.
Rental property that is part of a primary residence, for example an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or outbuilding, must be separately enrolled to qualify for reduced tax rates.
