Townsend Lions Club: Flags For First Graders

On February 16th, Presidents' Day, the Broadwater Lions Club gave their yearly presentation of the American Flag to the first graders of Broadwater Elementary School.

This presentation consisted of a history of the American Flag, including who ordered the first flag to be made, who made the first flag, how many American Flags have there been, what the stars and stripes represent and what the colors of the flag stand for.

The 62 first graders were well informed as to the fact that it was Presidents Day and some of that holiday's history and some of our flag’s history as well. Credit needs to go to the great first-grade teachers we have at our school.

Helping in this year’s presentation were Lions Richard Heida, LeAnn Coffman and Club President Dela Chatriand. The Lions were also honored to have the assistance of Commander Linda Cosineau and Jen Dalrymple from American Legion Post 42, who showed the first graders the proper way to fold, handle and display the flag.

When the presentation was over, each first grader was given an American Flag, an American Flag Refrigerator magnet and a flyer showing all of the official American Flags.
