MABA Celebrates Secure Domestic Supply Chain for Crop Protection Tools

On Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order stating that the domestic production of elemental phosphorus is necessary for both defense manufacturing and agriculture, invoking the Defense Production Act to ensure an adequate supply of glyphosate-based herbicides. In response, the Montana Agricultural Business Association (MABA) issued the following statement:

“Food security is national security, and President Trump’s Executive Order makes that abundantly clear,” said Tanner Hoversland, Board President for the Montana Agricultural Business Association. “We’ve heard from our members time and time again their fear that domestic production of glyphosate will cease as a result of endless litigation, leaving American farmers vulnerable to poor quality or even harmful foreign made product. MABA and its member companies are thankful for this action, which demonstrates to America’s agribusiness community and producers this Administration’s support for domestic agriculture. We hope this order will result in continued access to safe, domestically produced glyphosate for our farmers and ranchers.”

The Trump Administration also recently listed potash and phosphate, both of which are essential to the production of fertilizer, as critical minerals, underscoring their vital nature in national security, including food production.
