Plans have been in the works to upgrade safety at Broadwater Courthouse for some time. Within the past few weeks, those safety measures have been put in place. Because government officials in various counties have been accosted with threats and even guns. County Commissioners Jesse Swenson, Debi Randolph and Lindsey Richtmyer have equipped each county office with secure windows through which customers can speak with county employees.

To better facilitate entry to the courthouse, the commissioners have set up the back door, between the building and the hospital as the only open entrance. Commissioner Richtmyer explained customers have ready access to dedicated parking near the door, which is near the building’s elevator, eliminating the need to use the stairs.

Other government buildings will be making these changes, which are proactive, Commissioner Randolph pointed out. “We want to make sure our employees, as well as the public, are safe.”
