There’s a new gym in town. Townsend Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) staged a ribbon-cutting for the fitness center Saturday.
Cole and Catie McCloud have opened the gym in a large building behind the former Townsend Electric Building. The facility has been open since December 8 of last year, according to Catie. And offers a variety of group fitness classes as well as coach-led workouts. “We specialize in strength and conditioning-focused workouts for all ages, plus we have a coaching expert in every class. We try to make the facility a welcoming place open six days a week with multiple class times to fit everyone’s schedule,” she explained.
Beginners or hardcore enthusiasts will find a sign-up link for subscription on the website cloud9athletics.com or follow them on the gym’s Facebook page or Instagram. They also welcome drop ins and have punch cards.
The open and airy gym, formerly a large garage, features echo bikes and an entire array of weightlifting equipment. “The bike workouts promise full body cardio exercise but are still low impact,” Cole explained.
Catie comes by her interest in fitness honestly: she played basketball for BHS and graduated in 2018. She received her accounting degree from Montana College of Technology in Butte, where she met Cole, who played collegiate football and is from Manhattan originally. They are both certified trainers through the CrossFit Program. Judy Siler works with the two owners as a personal trainer and class coach.
TAAC President Anna Glueckert expressed her enthusiasm for the new business in town: “Cloud 9 Athletics is a great new addition to our town and locally owned and operated by a long- time resident. The Watsons’ Catie has returned to her hometown to join as a business owner. We are excited and pleased to have Catie and her husband Cole here.”
