A New Start, to Look at Old Problems!

People, even in small towns like Townsend, need to look in their mirrors. Are we tolerant? Do we hate? Because …. Don’t know, do you?

Let’s separate them all out, shall we? Dislike, or mild annoyance, even low-key, so far, hatred. Folks want a bigger town feel, more upscale restaurants. Our post office doesn’t deliver to the house. People don’t seem to understand turn lanes and parking lanes! Some people can’t quite figure out the blinking red light at the corner. These are just the beginning. There are many pet peeves; they shouldn’t bother us ‐ a minor annoyance only.

But they do bother us. Many of us keep it inside and just growl. I don’t like to do that; it scares my squirrels.

I have not seen much in the way of racism towards folks of different colors or religions. The wonderful Amish/Hutterite/Mennonite folks all seem to get along with everyone here. We Montanans try to be pretty polite to most everyone. This is a good thing!

If you remember, a while back, I pointed out that there actually is a group of people who are to blame for all the ills of the world. These people are from all walks of life. There are griping, whining problem children in any and all groups. They are called “as%*&#oles.” There are now enough of these people that they have achieved racial status. Everyone knows these people. You can see folks steer clear of them in public. They hate everyone, and they try to push their beliefs on everyone around them! Don't let them! Folks always say, “Well, those people are ok alone; just don’t be around them in groups." What?

Have any of you been to a barn dance? Or a good old country bar? Hard-working folks; call them rednecks, hayseeds or white trash. They are mostly white and get into a bit of shenanigans when gathered together, as your dads and grandads in the good old days. Those cows didn’t tip themselves over!

It seems like everyone wants someone to blame. Why? I’ve got news for you: human beings are always looking to get into trouble! We are people who get bored easily. You should talk to any and all of US military types. Yeah, nothing sets a leader’s blood to boil like a bunch of bored GIs. Always looking for a good time.

We all need to be a bit more tolerant, unless someone is trying to take over the country. Then all bets are off! After the attacks of 9/11, a comedian said, “Now you KNOW if they had attacked a Budweiser plant, there would be 50,000 bass boats headed overseas. They attacked the King of Beers, Get Em!” With colder weather on the way sometime, we all need to be a little more cautious, watch out for children and the last tourists. Be careful, the streets are very slippery.

Have a great beginning to a new year.
