Almost, but not quite!

Almost, but Not Quite!
This coming Thursday, it will be here, the New Year. Yeah, I kind of feel the same way…so? Ok, we start a new year and pretend we are all going to go through some kind of metamorphosis and be completely different people. Nah, not so much, many of us try to be better and some succeed. I’m really trying to cut down on my sugar consumption - please, not a word about my morning Pepsi!
New Year’s resolutions never work…without some serious effort. You have to try to be and do things better! Wow, that was easy, right? Nope, not so much. I am fighting to stay in shape…yes, I’m old, but with going to the fitness center on Front Street, I’m succeeding! Many folks that you know are going there. It’s called V-42 Fitness, where the Highway 12 café used to be. All kinds of weights, treadmills, elliptical bikes, and classes for all ages. These things are available for everyone. You would be amazed at how many of us older guys and gals are going there on a regular basis. And we feel better doing it! Check it out.
The whole “eating right” is a good way to feel better and get healthier. So many of us try so hard to slim down, wear the weight off - too quickly! “Buzz, wrong answer, thank you for playing." Going slower and taking your time to build up slowly works so much better. Start the new year off on the right foot…Why do they always say right foot? Use both feet; you get farther walking on both feet.
I can’t believe it has been 26 years since the year 2000! Wow, remember all the crap about, “Oh, the computers, worldwide, will all explode, finances will dry up. Doom, death, chaos." Nope! Just a bunch of scared people standing in the rain screaming; the rest of us just watched from our barstools and laughed. The same thing happened in the year 1900; people went berserk! “The sky is falling."
Everywhere there were cats looking around, thinking, "I don’t see the problem here. Is there any catnip left?" Human beings are either entertained or scared about…nothing. Ever hear about the pet rock? Or the Jackalope? Yep entertaining!
Old Ted Kaczynski went about it the way wrong way, but he was right. Technology is taking over our lives. Don’t think so? Go into any restaurant or bar, and how many people are on their cell phones?
This coming year, put the phones down, talk to your kids! Actually, look at and taste your food. Walk more. Yes, you can see me walking around town waving at everybody. I like scaring the tourists. IF you actually walk around town, you will see what a great little town we have. This is not something to take for granted. When you go to other towns, you all come back here, and thank God you live here! Enjoy it! If the speculators have their way, we will become one of those other places. Stay “Small Town, Townsend!”
Prepare for the cold! Stay safe, stay well. Feed the Squirrels.
