'Twas the Day After Christmas!

Since the paper comes out on Dec. 26th, I thought, why do a Night Before Christmas article? Soooo away we go!

On the day after Christmas, what do we all do? Clean up the mess, of course, wrapping paper everywhere! Boxes, and all the little filler that goes in most boxes nowadays, plastic corners to help keep packages from sliding all over the place while being delivered.

God’s blessings over our mail carriers! Local, UPS, FedEx. All of them, many times, deliver on late nights and weekends. Especially during the holiday season. God bless them, every one (with apologies to Tiny Tim). Now comes the after-holiday funk - what to do? The guys know what to do; they are out hunting and fishing. Preparing for the Perch Derby - if we get to have a Perch Derby this year. The warm weather is wreaking havoc with local sportspeople. NO SNOW? I know I like snow!

Snow makes everything seem so clean and silent. Even if it’s just covering up the garbage in the alleys. You would think there would be a re-usable wrapping paper. But ripping it up and tearing it apart is too much fun! Also, who comes up with the patterns for wrapping paper? I’ve seen some really beautiful paper in my time, but some in the last 5 years are bizarre. Besides the red & green, I’ve always liked the blue and silver together. Candy canes, and trees, etc., are fine, but some of the so-called Art Deco - no thank you. Go back to designing store windows in New York City! Montana should have its own wrapping paper, moose, elk, a bear or two.

All year round, you could have birthday wrapping paper with squirrels! You didn’t think I’d forgotten the squirrels, did you? With this weather so mild, so far, everyone can get outside. Then everyone can play with their toys! The women can sit inside, breathe a sigh of relief, and sip wine with their friends. Laughing about all the shenanigans of the season and feeling relieved it's over!

Stay well, everyone. Remember: New Year's Eve is amateur night. Stay home; stay alive!

Now we get into real winter. At least the mountains are covered with snow. That will be good for summer. We seem to have a great snowpack to help with holding off summer fires. Baldy is happy to contribute! The Mountain, Not Me!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season! Did you send out all your Christmas cards? Stay well; cold & flu season is here. Chew up the elderberry gummies; it helps fight off colds.

Stay safe; stay well - the NEW Year is about to start. GEEZ, and another year….
