Swing Out Helena Featured at New Year's Eve Dance

Matt Schmidt of Swing Out Helena Dance Studio will lead dance lessons, Wednesday, December 31st at the Lodge in Townsend. Schmidt, owner and co- founder, teaches country swing, jazz swing and Lindy Hop dances to couples and singles who enjoy the pleasure of learning new dances in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Music will be provided by the 60’s 70’s and 80’s swing tunes of Queen City Swing, a Helena nine-piece big band sound. Dancing, food and beverages will fill the evening beginning at 6:45 pm. A charcuterie appetizer table will be offered along with beverages.
According to Schmidt, a professional DJ, he leads lessons at the Western Bar on Last Chance Gulch in Helena with a live band. In college, he performed as a jazz guitarist with the Montana State University Swing Cats group. He founded Swing Out Helena with Samantha Strom of Helena.
Queen City Swing on New Year’s Eve has been sponsored by Broadwater Community Theater in the past. Sponsors of the nonprofit theater group are Jak’s Heating and Air, Nancy Marks, Bill Kearns Estate, Pat Plantenberg and Mary Mistek, Beth Ihle, Townsend Rotary, Retired Teachers Group, Jeannie Mainwaring, Brian and Laura Obert, Chuck McLane, Dwight and Julie Thompson, Ron and Mary Ann Salladay, Opportunity Bank, STOKE, Judy Schenk, Jan Hubber, Bob Saxby and John Hahn.
