On December 4th, the basketball season for both Bulldog basketball teams kicked off with the Blue/White scrimmage. The boys’ and girls’ teams both showed what they have been practicing for the past two weeks. The girls’ game was first, and it ended with the White team winning. The boys’ game followed, and the blue team won. Both the boys and the girls showed early signs of a successful season. The teams have been working hard to prepare for their upcoming tournament in Red Lodge on December 12th and 13th. The week after that, the boys and girls will start conference play at home against Whitehall on December 19th.

Both Bulldogs Basketball teams are led by new head coaches. Clint Watson will coach the boys’ team. He previously coached for the Bulldogs for 26 years, 6 of those as Varsity head coach. From 1995-2021, coach Watson led the Bulldogs to state placing and winning records. He retired in 2021, but now he’s back to coach the team this year, hoping to continue his legacy. His assistant coaches, Kirk Flynn and Dan Harrigfeld, have also returned to help Watson coach.

The girls have welcomed a new head coach from Bozeman, Dave Wheeler. He was previously the Junior Varsity coach and Assistant Head coach for Bozeman High School. He was hired in August to coach the girls’ varsity team. He works as a personal trainer and offers private basketball lessons in Bozeman. He played basketball for St. Lawrence University in his college years. Both coaches are excited for the upcoming season and hope to find success.
