School and Nonprofit Groups Meet Their Annual Fundraising Goals at the Stroll

It was a great night for school and nonprofit organizations at Townsend’s Christmas Stroll Saturday. “We’ve been working hard with our basket raffle for years,” teacher, Terry Fischer, explained,” and we use the money to buy supplies for grades K through 8.”
Several 4-H clubs set up shop on Broadway Street with steak sandwiches, wreaths and handmade gifts. Among those clubs participating were Rough Hands, Old Baldy and Winston Eager Beavers. Whether booth volunteers sold much seemed less important than the fun they had working together.
Townsend Area Chamber of Commerce plans the annual event to encourage strollers to “buy local.” Indications from how full Townsend Hardware, The Bird’s Nest and Lake Side Distillery were showed the stores full of shoppers from 4 p.m. until the stroll closed at 7. The highlight of the evening was a raucous parade of trucks and floats with kids throwing candy.
A highlight of the evening for kids and parents alike was a visit to Santa’s Workshop. People lined up throughout the evening to ask Santa and Mrs. Claus to bring their wish list of gifts for Christmas. Rocky Mountain Mini Cabins not only donated the use of a small log cabin, but also did the work to move the building to and from Broadway and Front Street for the festivities, according to Chamber member Doug Sitton. Townsend Rotary members helped put finishing touches on the street with lights on the trees. New this year was lighting of the Massa Park Tree. “We would like to thank all the businesses and organizations who helped make this a very successful stroll this year,” Sitton said.
