May 20, 1952 - November 5, 2025

On November 5, 2025, while a gentle rain caressed the Olympic mountains, a brilliant rainbow manifested across the sky, welcoming George Roger Dundas on to his next journey. After having struggled with the after-effects of a stroke in November 2024, Roger passed away in his home with his loving wife, Dottie Ferrell, and faithful dog, Trooper.

Roger, 73, was born in Bozeman, Mont., to parents George Willis Dundas and Ethel Margo Welch. He dedicated his life to being the best son, the best father, the best husband, and the best friend that he could be. While his towering stature often intimidated strangers, those who knew Roger were blessed with a friend who would give him the shirt off his back. Roger was a county sheriff in Townsend, before moving on to work as a highway patrol officer in Helena. In Helena, his friends pushed him to go on a blind date with a nurse one night. They both worked late shifts, so they went to one of the only restaurants open at 11 p.m. that brisk October night. They had breakfast for dinner and that was the first of many breakfasts shared between Roger and Dottie during their 32-year marriage.

A cowboy through-and-through, Roger spent most of his life on ranches and farms throughout Montana. Even after he retired from patrol work in Montana and moved to Port Angeles, Washington, he continued to travel back to Montana twice yearly to attend his ranch.

He had the joy of teaching his kids and grandkids how to fish, how to build benches, birdhouses, sheds, and greenhouses, and how to properly care for the land. Mostly, however, Roger taught us all how to live life to its fullest and never fully grow up. There are always adventures to be had, and he was never one to shy away from an opportunity.

Roger is survived by his wife, Dottie Ferrell, his four siblings: Patricia Toney, Terry Spatzerath, Brad Dundas, and Robert Dundas, and his four children: Jayme Johnston, George Daniel Dundas, Katrina Ferrell, and Greta Turney.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those interested in honoring Roger, please consider donating to a local animal shelter or to hospice which was an invaluable source of support over the last year for Roger and Dottie.
