Common Sense

'Tis the Time of Giving Thanks, and the Murdering of Birds!
This is an interesting time, the Deer are running toward the roads so the hunters can’t shoot them, and the turkeys are running deeper into the woods, mostly for the same reason. This is a wonderful season; I just wish Thanksgiving got a little more time before Santa starts popping up all over town. Many a cartoon has been drawn showing the turkeys, screaming at Santa, “Wait your turn, fat boy!” Autumn is beautiful, but this whole “Pumpkin Spice” crap is too much!
I know if it wasn’t about the history, colonists and native Americans coming together over Pheasant, the whole holiday would just be about eating till we vomit, then fall asleep. I wonder what teams in the early NFL were playing on the first Thanksgiving? Probably the Plymouth Puritans and the Redskins Opps, sorry the “Commanders”. YEAH RIGHT! I wonder if one of the Puritan women was the first to knit a Flannel shirt?
It has always been a great time to get family members together and act somewhat civil toward one another. Or at least to try. Until around here a tourist sees a Red Maga hat, EEK! I’m trying to remember, I think the chemical in turkey is called tryptophan. That makes you sleepy after eating too much bird and falling asleep in front of the TV. Or the insane babbling of relatives, you don’t even know if they are related. Could be some watery-eyed derelict from the casino parking lot.
I remember growing up and the friends and relatives coming together for Thanksgiving; it was mostly a great time. Seeing old pals and relations you hadn’t seen in years. (Then you remember why.) But the women keep everybody leveled and fed. 'Till they wobble a bit.
Just remember to at least THINK about being grateful for what you have! God’s blessings over all of us, and please be careful on our roads. The weather will get nasty, as our November thaw is about over! Tether your elephants. Stay safe and warm, folks. A happy Thanksgiving to you all my people. Be kind, be good and most of all be stuffed! Get back Santa! Not yet time for your shenanigans!
