What Gets You Excited?
NO - Keep it clean, this is a family newspaper! I’m talking about simple things in everyday life. I just finished watching my Buffalo Bills win the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. THAT got me pretty hot under the collar, but this is most every Sunday during football season.
The things that set a lot of us off are so simple. Years ago, one of Walt Disney’s cartoons had a segment called “Mr. Walker & Mr. Wheeler.” It showed a mild-mannered guy walking around home. He then was going to work, so he got into his car. All of a sudden, he got VERY AGITATED and turned into Mr. Wheeler, a horrible driver, who would scream at everyone not driving fast enough or who were crossing a street in front of him.
Never mind waiting for a red light to change! This reminded of me when I would be in even a little bit of a hurry. Oh yeah, screaming like a banshee because I would be 10 seconds late getting to somewhere unimportant.
I have been “trying” to lower my blood pressure but driving or football doesn’t help! We all have those little things that set us off and raise our blood pressure. Why? Unless there is an actual emergency, why are we in such a hurry?
This has been a big problem all my life. I don’t go out in a field and scream, although I’d like to, and I hear it relieves tension. Can you imagine a “scream room” in hotels? Maybe in offices? “Excuse me, Boss, I have really got to go into the screaming room, back in a minute”.
You know this might actually relieve some serious anxiety in folks! I can see it or hear it now, “Where’s Jenny? Oh, she’ll be out in a minute, she just needed to let off a little steam”.
“AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!"
“Ah, there we go. She will be with you in a minute.”
Yep, letting off a bit of frustration now and then isn’t a bad thing, as long as there are no sharp implements around. Having to deal with - how do I say this “nicely"? - stupid people. Behind store counters or tellers’ cages can drive you bat crap crazy. Luckily, around here we don’t have that problem, we seem like a nice, sane town…don’t we? All is good.
I am so glad our school teaches our young people how to count change; several parents do too! Thank you, parents. There are some folks who have never been taught how to count change or figure out that, in life, one size does not fit all. Try not to scream, unless you have a designated room for it!
Our lives around here are pretty mellow; only tourists who have no idea what to do with a “flashing” red light cause havoc. So, stay calm and relaxed, good people. Remember, you could be in a massive city, dodging bullets and street musicians.
