Fireman's Breakfast Wildly Successful

MT43 News Staff Reporter

Sometimes good things come from bad weather. The annual Fireman's Breakfast held at the Firehall last weekend saw one of the largest crowds it has ever fed. The weather was breezy and cool. A hot breakfast really hit the spot for many folks.

According to Fire Chief Ed Shindoll, the fire crew volunteers flipped pancakes, fried sausage and made gravy for 416 people Saturday and 318 more on Sunday. The event is a great place to visit friends and family, and to get to know people if you are new to Townsend. Shindoll said Monday the breakfast raised $4,275 after most of the expenses.

Funds raised for the event help pay for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment. The units are used by firefighters to breathe in smoke when fighting fires. The fire chief has just received a bid for 20 units for $200,000. “We need more than 20 units, but settle for this many now. Next year we will try for a grant award,” he explained.
