Beer Stein Holders Meet the Challenge

MT43 News Staff Reporter

One of Emcee Doug Sitton’s favorite Fall Fest activities is the beer stein holding contest. The annual event, which involves the participant holding a full beer mug of water at arm's length for as long as he or she is able. Open for both men and women, this year’s contest saw the largest number of contestants ever, according to Sitton.

Sponsored by Lehrkinds Distributing, Sitton cajoled, encouraged and pumped up enthusiasm for the large crowd of beer stein holders. The rules are strict: hold the stein only by the handle; no bending backward, no supporting arm with the other hand, etc. Mark Steinburg (no relation to steins), who is the general manager of the company, acted as the time-keeper. Sitton called out the passing minutes. Contestants, both men and women, began to fall out, spilling their stein contents as they each gave up the struggle.

Finally, after 4 minutes 25 seconds, Brittany Taves and one unidentified person won the ladies’ contest. Clint Watson gave the winner of the men’s contest a run for his money, but in the end David Wright of Townsend won by holding his stein 5 minutes, 30 seconds. Oddly enough, Wright was last year’s winner also.
