1902

“Local News”

W.E. Tierney spent Wednesday at the capitol.

Call at Mrs. McCuin’s millinery store and see the Ping Pong hats, the latest style.

The new furniture for the County High School has arrived and is being placed in the building.

John Hines and Chas. Doggett went to Helena Wednesday and among other transactions of importance, they assisted very materially in transferring Joe Johnson from the train to the ambulance.

Joe Johnson met with a very serious accident one evening the fore part of the week. He and H.T. Gilbert were scuffling and being stout men the chances were very much against a fall without a bruise. The fall came and as a result Mr. Johnson’s ankle was badly broken Dr. Gilham was called and reduced the fracture and on Wednesday morning Mr. Johnson was taken to the sisters hospital at Helena, where he will remain until he recovers.

The shortening of the days is evidence of the sure approach of winter.

Politics are cooling down and matters in that line are assuming a normal condition.

1941

“Local News”

Miss Cora Schmidt is at the Broadwater hospital again filling in during a rush period. She is office nurse for Dr. McElwey of White Sulphur Springs.

Mrs. Frank Holloway was honored last Sunday, it being her birthday anniversary week, at a dinner party given at her home by her family, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Reiber, Mr. And Mrs. Freeman Bruce, Miss Glory Bruce and Agnes Ann and Mr. Holloway.

Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Doggett and family have moved from the ranch to Townsend and are permanently settled in their town house which has recently been redecorated and many improvements added.

“Canton Valley News”

Mrs. Clarence Morris, teacher of the Canton school motored to Billings on Saturday with her daughter Miss Norma, who registered on Monday at the Billings Normal school for the coming term. Mrs. Morris returned on Monday evening. There was no school at Canton on that day.

Eddie Daniels, student at the Montana State College, left for Bozeman Saturday morning to register for the coming term of school. Eddie is a sophomore this year.

Dick Ness of Townsend was the weekend guest of Pete Barker on Confederate creek.

1958

“Local News”

Dr. and Mrs. Frank P. Nash, Peter and Dick and Mr. and Mrs. James Kearns were in Helena Saturday night to attend the Carroll College- Eastern Oregon football game. It was Jack Nash’s first college football game.

Bob Cobban of Winston was a Wednesday night dinner guest of Mrs. Annabelle Doughty and Linda.

Mr. and Mrs. George Rauser, Sr., left Sept. 28th for New York where they will board the Queen Mary for a tour of England, Holland, France, Belgium and Switzerland. They will then go to Stuttgart, Germany for a month’s visit with relatives whom Mr. Rauser has not seen for 32 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bowhay of Seattle visited friends in Townsend last Friday and Saturday. Mr. Bowhay retired about a year ago from teaching in the public schools at Seattle. At the time of his retirement, he was head of the Broadway-Edison Technical School. His father operated the first electric light plant in Townsend.

Miss Helen Connors, who has been working in Yellowstone Park the past season, is spending the month of October in Townsend with her sister, Miss Mary Connors, and brother, Gene Connors.
