Dorothy Vivian Larson, affectionately known as "Gramma Dot" by many, passed away at age 78 peacefully in her home on September 3, 2025.
She was born on February 7, 1947, to John Columbus Slater and Irmgard Pauline Slater. Her father was in the Coast Guard and so Dot spent her younger years at Point Loma Lighthouse, in California where her love for the Ocean started.
She married Noel John Larson on April 2, 1966, and they lived in Chula Vista, CA where they started their family. Dot and Noel later moved their family to Grangeville, Idaho in 1977 and then on to Blanchard in the early 1980s. Dot enjoyed working in the office at Stoneridge Resort while living in Blanchard. In 1989, they moved to Townsend Montana where Dot had a long career as an Office Manager and Dispatcher for National Bark Sales until her retirement.
A talented and creative soul, Dot enjoyed crocheting, crafting, and sewing, often picking up random items to make something wonderful. She loved watching old westerns, playing her games on her computer, sharing recipes, and sending daily good mornings on Facebook. She enjoyed her trips to the casino to visit with her friend Patty and would often win just enough to keep her playing, sometimes winning big. Dot also enjoyed a cold Rainier Beer or 2. Dot’s visits with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy, especially her youngest grandson Kael, who affectionately nicknamed her “Gramma Duck” a name that always made her smile and laugh. She enjoyed shopping trips to Costco and Walmart, particularly the spice aisles, where she’d talk about what recipes she’d want to use those spices in. Known for her warm personality, Dot loved starting conversations with anyone, and she never met a stranger. Her laughter, stories and her daily good mornings and good nights on Facebook will be deeply missed.
Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Noel John Larson, her parents, her son Kael Erik Larson, and her sisters Erla, and Kathy. She is survived by her sister Pauline, her brother John (Dana), her children Keith (Teena) Larson, and Kris (Bill) Crotinger, her daughter in law, Jessie (Kael) as well as her grandchildren Kaleb, Keagan (Mary), Ashlyn, Aidan, Zack, Arin, and Ericka, and her great-grandchildren Gavin, Kyzer, and Kael. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Dot’s life will be held at the 4-H Building at the Fairgrounds in Townsend on Saturday, October 11th at 12:30 pm. Please come and share lunch and a Rainier with us and your funny stories and memories of Dot.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to a charity of your choice.
