Recycling - Not Easy, but Possible

I’d like to continue last week’s letter to the editor regarding the challenges of recycling in Montana, which raised a good point about the economics of recycling. Most counties in Montana, understandably, cannot justify the costs of recycling.

Good News though! We can recycle if we want to put a little effort into it. The City of Helena has a recycling center that accepts glass and plastic (1 & 2), as well as oil (up to 5 gallons), batteries, cardboard, paper, aluminum and steel. The facility, which is next to Carroll College, is open to the public; for a minimum charge of $6, you can bring up to 200 pounds of recyclables and be confident your items will be responsibly recycled.

We are fortunate to live near a City/County partnership which is able to recycle and allows other communities to take advantage and contribute to their efforts.

Recycling is a challenge; if it is important to you, it can be done with a little planning on your next trip to Helena.
