1902
“Local News”
Jeff Doggett of Duck Creek was in town Thursday and hauled home two large loads of lumber for building apple boxes in which to put his large crop of apples.
The train on which the Townsend fishing party was returning from Sixteen Mile Monday, struck a cow on the Dorsey branch, partially derailing the engine and causing quite a delay.
Misses Marie Dougherty and Laura Sherlock drove to Townsend from Crow Creek on Thursday of last week and spent a few days with Townsend friends. They were in the storm which played so much havoc with the Radersburg and Hassel roads and experienced some difficulty in getting across the gulches.

Adnah Kimpton and Albert Pease accompanied by the Misses Eva Concannon and Katie Parker, spent a few hours at the home of O.T.H. Allen at Dogtown.
Mesdames Duff and Brown visited with Townsend friends Sunday.
Tony Mockel of Spring Creek, accompanied by his sister, Dora, and Mrs. Sewer of Helena spent Sunday in the valley.

“Local News”
Tuesday afternoon found the two little daughters of Mrs. Gail Davis enjoying a birthday anniversary party at the home of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Zimmerman. Cakes bearing 10 and 8 candles told the story of their ages. There were about 20 guests.
Charlene Mahony charming little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mahony, was hostess Monday to a number of her little friends, the occasion being in honor of her birthday anniversary. Games and favors made the guests, numbering about 30, happy.
Miss Gloria Kapinos is taking a vacation from her school of nursing in Great Falls and is at home in Townsend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kapinos, for the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ragen left Tuesday for a short vacation trip at Camas Hot Springs. Last Sunday they entertained at their ranch home near Townsend honoring Mr. Ragen on the occasion of his 81st birthday anniversary. All of the members of their family with the exception of their son, Harry, who resides in Duluth, were present.

“Celebrates Birthday”
Tommy Thompson celebrated his 5th birthday, Tuesday, Aug. 19th at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thompson. Those enjoying the happy occasion were David Evans, David Thompson, Donny Damuth, Eddie Fisher, Dennis Arnett, Jackie Ragen, Jeff Ragen, Greg Wallace and Barbara and Jim Booher, Mary Lou and Marcia Thompson assisted.

Miss Peggy cousins and Miss Ruth Williams of Maine visited first of the week with their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Heine Huth and family.
Miss Helen Braley and Miss Susan McElravy left Sunday to spend a week at the Episcopal camp at Georgetown Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Neifert and Cactus Sherwood took a group of boys to the YMCA camp at Elliston Sunday for a week’s outing. Boys going were Rodney Davis, Danny Neifert, Ted Ulmer, Dick Nash, Frankie Romer, Pat Ragen and Skip Sherwood.

“Townsend News”
Barbara Johnson is now employed in the Office of the Superintendent of Schools in the courthouse. She is the assistant to Terry Love, Superintendent of Schools.
A Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed was held at the home of Jim and Marilyn Buckley Sunday evening and Ray and Gertrude Girdler did the honors on the oysters. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Allan Damuth, Chris and Brenda; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Schenk and Ron; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Warneke and family; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Toney; Mr. and Mrs. John Walter; Mr. and Mrs. Skip Kellicut, Sam, and Shanley; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ulmer; Mr. and Mrs. John Ulmer; Marty Leanhart; George Cosgrove; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cartwright, Mike and Cindy; Dr. and Mrs. Perry Rhyneer and Dean; Teena Leanhart and her guest; Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Turcotte; Bertha Rivers and the Girdlers. Jim Warneke provided the guitar music for dancing.
