Happiness: Why Aren’t More People Happy?
I try to be happy - I know, big surprise. Which makes me curious, why aren’t more people happy? I understand if folks have had a major crisis in their life, these come in many shapes and forms: health, financial, property damage, etc. I’m talking about just average, everyday life!
So many people walk around at work, or even relaxing, and they “sigh”. Being tired I understand only too well, but this is a daily thing. Folks waiting on…things that WILL be done soon; people at work realizing they have several chores to do, at their jobs and a myriad of other “small” things that seem to drain them. Remember books called “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, and It’s ALL Small Stuff”? These stories show us about all the little things in life that just get to us. Because we let them!
Hey, I understand: I’m a “self-stressor”. We need to slow down! Coming from me, that’s rich. I’m always running. I’m not trying to be Dr. Phil here, but stop and really look at your life. DO you have a home? Are you wearing clothes? (Hopefully, or you really have problems.) Have you eaten lately, and do you have food for later? Do you have a vehicle to move yourself from one place to another? Do you have a job? (IF you really enjoy your job, and are surrounded by great people, you are sooo far ahead in the game of life!).
These are all things that should make you happy; most people are. There are always a few who love to point out why others should feel bad. I read a while back about somebody who won about 800 million dollars. The first thing one of those people said was, “Oh yeah, but that will only be about $400 million after taxes!” (The urge to body slam that person would be strong!) Oh gee, only $400 million? I could live several lifetimes on that.
I have talked before on here about “Black Clouds”, those people who must suck all the light out of life. They walk among us; stay away from them! No matter how much you try to jolly them up, they will drag you down. Or if you are “Southern,” just smile and say, “God bless”.
I think I was born with, or raised with, a sense of absurdity. I tend to see the crazy things in life. (Thank you, Lord.) I have had terrible times, lost family members and been shot at, luckily without result. I survived and see the humor in life’s circumstances. If you wake up and have had a good night’s sleep, realize you are in a country where you can feel safe. If even “sighing” at work…you have a job! I don’t mean you have to be singing around the shop, but you could. Just like the song “Don’t Worry Be Happy!”
Now go out on the Townsend streets and give a big, silly grin at a local, or better yet, a stranger! You will feel better.
